This AMD Ryzen notebook deal is probably the best we’ve ever seen

We reviewers are used to obsessing over incremental technology changes, but every now and then a supernova appears on our radar – something that can single handedly change the status quo.

The AMD Ryzen 4000 family is one such supernova and promises to bring some of the best processing performance ever to laptops, at a price that defies logic.

When we first laid eyes on the Ideapad 5 15, it was immediately clear Lenovo is going for the jugular.

Available for as as little as £475 (roughly $ 590/AU$ 920), the IdeaPad is considered an entry level model, so we were delighted to see the AMD Ryzen 7 4700U making an emphatic appearance.

The laptop comes with 8GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD (M.2 2242, PCIe-NVMe, TLC) and, most importantly, you can swap out Windows 10 for FreeDOS (an MS-DOS equivalent).

You can also add a dummy hard disk drive for free, which means you can integrate a secondary 2.5-inch SSD at a later date.

It also features a 15.6-inch full HD TN display, which you can swap for a touch/non-touch superior IPS model for a small additional fee.

Likewise, if your budget will allow, you can add a fingerprint reader, replace the 45Whr battery with a 57Whr model and exchange the Wireless 2×2 AC for a more advanced Wi-Fi 6 2×2 AX.

Note, the machine is not yet available in Australia or the US, but we've contacted Lenovo to find out when it will appear in non-European regions.

EE’s Black Friday SIM only deal returns – 60GB of data for just £20 a month

Is it a coincidence that EE brought back one of its best ever SIM only deals on Valentine's Day…? No. No it's not and we cannot stress this enough…SIM plans aren't romantic.

However, while this doesn't scream love, it does at least quietly chant bargain as this marks the return of one of EE's best SIM plans. Offering up 60GB of data for just £20 a month, the last time we saw this promotion from EE was over Black Friday.

Considering EE isn't exactly the cheapest network around, usually costing more than its three main competitors – Three, Vodafone and O2 – anytime we spot the big name retailer going big on its deals, it's always worth jumping on.

For you or for a gift for your partner – you can't say we didn't try and deter you – we've listed everything you need to know about this EE SIM only deal down below. You'll also find details of the closest competing offers.

EE's big data SIM only deal:

What other SIM only deals are available right now?

One deal EE will have difficulty beating comes from Three. Offering an unlimited data cap for just £18 a month, Three currently has the market beat.

Or, on the cheaper side, Smarty Mobile is rocking a 50GB data plan at a price of just £15 a month. And with this deal, you'll be on a 1-month rolling contract meaning you can stay for as long as you want and leave when you like.

Just want something cheap and cheerful? iD Mobile's 2GB of data for £6 option could be ideal.

Need some running earbuds? Beats Powerbeats 3 deal sees price cut by over 50%

If you're on the hunt for some new running headphones, the Beats Powerbeats 3 are a great choice – and they're currently reduced by over 50% in both the US and the UK.

In the US, you can get these workout-friendly wireless earbuds for just $ 89, representing a huge saving of $ 111; meanwhile, UK buyers can save £92 on the Powerbeats 3.

Today's best Beats Powerbeats 3 deals

The PowerBeats 3 are well-made and long-lasting, with great audio for fitness headphones; with this deal, they're easy on the wallet, too.

With 12 hours of battery life, and ear hooks to ensure a secure fit, they should stay switched on and comfortable no matter how long or how vigorous your workouts are.

An inline remote means you can click to change the volume of your music, skip tracks, and take calls without reaching for your phone.

These buds have a great bass response, though audiophiles may find the lowest frequencies a little overwhelming; either way you'll enjoy a good level of detail in your music, and that powerful bass is ideal for pushing you through even the toughest workout.

What about the Powerbeats 4?

That's why we awarded them 3.5 out of 5 stars in our Powerbeats 3 review – they're not perfect, but these buds are brilliant for runners.

We saw similar price drops over Black Friday and the early Christmas sales; they're a little long in the tooth now, which is likely why more retailers are dropping their Powerbeats 3 prices. If you're looking for something a little more contemporary, check out the Beats Powerbeats Pro, which launched last year and come with Apple's most recent headphone chip.

Furthermore, with rumors of a Powerbeats 4 launch on the horizon, it's little wonder that prices for the Powerbeats 3 are starting to drop – we're not expecting these prices to fall much lower in the near future though (unless we see them return to their all-time low of $ 79 in the US), so we'd recommend snapping up this fantastic deal in the meantime.

NBN deal: iiNet’s chucking in free Fetch subs with selected broadband plans

It’s no simple task choosing an ISP, but if you’re looking to bundle an entertainment package with your provider then iiNet has a deal that’s worth considering.

The leading Aussie ISP is offering a Fetch entertainment bundle free for your first six months when you switch to its NBN25 Liimitless, NBN50 Liimitless or NBN100 Liimitless data plans.

The Fetch entertainment package includes a Fetch Mini set-top box to plug into your TV, which gets you easy access to free-to-air catch-up TV and 30 pre-selected movies each month, and can also stream Netflix and Stan (you’ll need to BYO subscription) and YouTube.

It usually costs AU$ 5 a month, but it’s free for the length of your six-month contract – note that there’s an initial set up fee of AU$ 59.99 however.

Fetch also offers additional channel packs with kids, knowledge, variety and ‘vibe’ content (yeah, we’re not sure about that name either) for an extra AU$ 6 each per month, or include them all in the ultimate channel pack for AU$ 20 per month.

The NBN50 connection is arguably the best value at AU$ 74.99 per month, and iiNet says it’ll get you evening speeds of 43.7Mbps during the peak busy period. This Fetch bundle’s also available on the NBN25 and NBN100 Liimitless plans, priced at AU$ 69.95 and AU$ 99.95 respectively.

If you need a modem, there’s a modest upfront cost of AU$ 59.95 plus a AU$ 10 delivery fee, but you can BYO modem if you already have one.

It’s not too late to grab a fantastic Xbox One deal this weekend as prices drop once more

We've been surprised by some fantastic Xbox One deals this week, and those Xbox One S and Xbox One X bundles are sticking around for the weekend as well. We've been used to seeing these prices over Black Friday and during the seasonal sales, but a sudden price drop back to $ 149 on the All Digital Edition and $ 349 on the Xbox One X are very welcome indeed.

That's right, those looking to take advantage of the current Game Pass roster or who simply want the cheapest Xbox One deal possible can pick up an All Digital Edition on sale for just $ 149. That low price is courtesy of the fact that this console does not have a disc drive. If you're looking to save on pre-owned physical games or to build up a case collection you'll want to check out the full Xbox One S bundle for $ 63.99 more.

The $ 212 Xbox One S bundle comes with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order included. Looking for the 4K upgrade? You can also bag an Xbox One X deal with the latest Star Wars title for just $ 349 as sales return to Black Friday level discounts this week.

These Xbox One deals have been sorely missed over the last few weeks as prices have been rising back to their usual retail positions for the New Year. It's never too late to save on a brand new console, however, so these sales could have come at just the right time for a January mood booster.

Not in the US? Scroll down for the latest Xbox One deals in your area.
